ICT: It’s Everywhere
A wide variety of careers in Information Communication Technology were showcased at Echuca College in November. Year 9 students enjoyed workshops and presentations using robots, coding, games design, art, communications, drones and film making.
Anne Trickey from CCLLEN commenced the day with two short videos and a quiz to highlight the rapid advancements in ICT. The keynote speech was delivered by Chris Motton from Advance Computing on the software solutions that Advance has created for local businesses. The hands on workshops were delivered by La Trobe University, GO TAFE, Campaspe Library Services, Splatoon Cartoons, Academy of Interactive Entertainment and Goulburn Murray Water.
CCLLEN funded the catering for the day, which was provided by Echuca College’s Chaplaincy Committee.
Students gave very good feedback on the event with many positive comments. They appreciated the variety of workshops and careers, and being able to get involved in hands on activities. In response to the question “What did you like most?” –
- I really enjoyed learning about all the different career opportunities and all the hands -on workshops
- The range of different workshops and presenters, there wasn’t just people from the same field, they all had different careers
- All the experienced people giving insight into their careers
- Learning new information and asking questions because I learned a lot that I didn’t know before
Most students reported that they learnt something and many more are now interested in a career that involves ICT. Students were disappointed that they could not attend all the workshops on offer and that the bad weather prevented the drone demonstration from being held.
